Former HEC chairman Tariq Banuri told a press conference in Islamabad that the government had taken action against the rules last week. By law, it is said that as long as the term of office is extended, there is no investigation. These rules apply to every government agency. He said that in a very strange way law was made only for a particular servant. The government says we will not allow anyone to work freely.

Tariq Banuri said the removal of the HEC chairman was a matter of human rights and legal rights. This is also a matter for the education department.

Last week, the federal government decided to replace HEC chairman Tariq Banuri, and the Cabinet Committee on Legislation formally passed the ordinance.

With the enactment of the HEC Amendment Ordinance 2021, the tenure of the Chairman HEC has been extended by 2 years. Under the ordinance, this amendment will already be considered part of the ordinance.

Tariq Banuri was appointed by former PM Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on May of 2018. HEC Chairman Tariq Banuri was to complete his four-year term by May 2022.

A search committee will be formed to find a new chairman, after which the appointment will be announced and candidates will be interviewed.
