Haq said that an electronic voting system will be introduced in the next elections.

Haq added that "Digital Pakistan" is the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan and he wants an e-voting system for Pakistanis abroad.

The IT Minister said that the Election Commission was considering this option as it was its duty to hold transparent elections.

"We want to use it for the July 12 elections in Azad Kashmir, but due to legal issues, this cannot happen at the moment," he said.

"The government needs to increase 4G subscriptions first."

Commenting on the IT Minister's statement, Information and Communication Technology expert Pervez Iftikhar said that the government may achieve its goal of launching 5G by December 2022, but it will have to work hard.

"There are almost two years left, but a lot of work needs to be done," he told SAMAA Digital. As always, the technology will have an early start in the megacities commercial areas from where it will spread. The rest of the country.

In response to a question about 3G and 4G services, the expert said that 3G is a thing of the past. "4G technology has enabled many new services that help people work from home, hold meetings on apps like Zoom and go live on social media," he said. "Before 4G, people could not imagine how the new technology would benefit them. The same is true of 5G.

He said that the government would first have to increase 4G subscriptions in the country to get formal introduction of 5G. "They need to be helped to massively increase 4G subscriptions," Iftikhar said. He said that if the government provides facilities to the private sector to increase the penetration of optical fiber cables, this can be done while at the same time increasing the available equipment.
